Hip Hop Hangover...I don't want it to end!

Happy Friday! Happy Hip Hop Hangover!

It's quite melancholy knowing this is the final Hip Hop Hangover. Yes, I know Angela said Fridays will still remain the customer showcase day, but nonetheless, Hip Hop as we know and love it is coming to an end. Boo hoo. Plus, I love the name...here's hoping the new Friday showcase will have an equally adorable name!

I've made a few Unity offerings this week, but I'll start with the new one. I just realized I haven't made a card since the very beginning of August! It's wasn't that long ago but in terms of creating it seems AGES.

Nice and simple. I apologize for the dark nature of the pic. Hazard of indoor nighttime photography.

This card was going to include a bit of machine stitching on it but my machine decided to pout. I don't recall anything seeming wrong with it when I last shut it off but suddenly it won't go forward. Nice. It'll go backward fine, just not forward. If anyone has a suggestion for why it's doing this and/or how to fix it, PLEASE let me know!! I have 2 layouts in queue that were going to have machine stitching on them. I'm a little bit panicked. I might go into withdrawals if I can't fix it!

Update: The sewing machine mystery is solved!!! Thanks to a friend who suggested I should just make sure none of my settings looked "off". Somehow the darn bobbin winder was engaged and apparently that prevents the needle from moving forward. Whew!! Thanks Theresa!!

Details: Unity Stamp Co. stamp; Ranger Distress Ink; Making Memories journaling card; The Paper Co. paper; unknown ribbon.

Now onto the Unity Week In Review:

(Click on the title to see the original post with additional shots and details.)

Aaaand, for those of you who may have missed them last week (*pout* my blog got left off the HHH list last week *pout*):

Hope you all have an AWESOME weekend ahead of you. We've got a jam-packed one full of playdates (for the kids AND the parents) and a couple of birthday parties.

Have fun on the rest of the hop!!

Heidi

What The?! Unity Hip Hop Hangover!!!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover!!!

Have you seen the August KOTM? I have to say this is my favorite one so far. So many images I know I'm going to reach for again and again! This layout contains one of my favs, the camera:

March 2011 issue

I made this layout for the Hip Hop Color Challenge (to use red, blue, and green in any shade) and also for Scraplift Challenge #2 on Challenge U 2. It's a lift of my girlie, the awesome and talented Miss Diana of Sketchy Thursday!

So, OK, the pic on this layout. Yeah. Ummmmm... Had to scrap it because it's just so darn indescribable. I mean, yeah, I can see what my son's doing. (Ew.) I just don't know WHY. Hence the title and subtitle, "What The?! Yeah. No clue."

But seriously, how CUTE is that camera??!! I've also included a couple stars from the Stylin' Stars kit.

The adorable little robots from a Kia brochure are making another appearance, as well as a piece of masking tape from a super yummy Quiznos sub I had this past weekend. I just KNEW I could use that adorable Q tape. Wish I would've grabbed more!

The title is made from alpha stickers (maker unknown), stuck on a dictionary page, and outlined with a slick writer. And, I'm loving that Prima paper with its deckled edge. Wish I would've grabbed more of that, too.

Details: Unity Stamp Co. August KOTM & Stylin' Stars stamps; Ink - StazOn, Stampin' Up!; Paper - Prima, Cosmo Cricket, October Afternoon; Making Memories alpha stickers; Around the Block flair brad; Slick Writer; unknown green tape & ribbon; playing cards; Kia brochure; masking tape; dictionary page.

Make sure you check out this weekend's deals on Unity Stamp Co. Awesome as ever!

And, don't forget to come play with me on Spunky Scrappers (prompt - what makes you spunky?), on Memories Always-Forever (Tuesday Technique Masking Challenge) and on this week's SPCC color challenge:

So many fun challenges!!

Have a great weekend!!!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover!!

Woohooooo! It's Hip Hop Hangover Friday!!!

I got a great shipment of Unity goodness this past week (Stylin' Stars, You're a Star single, houndstooth background, and Love Is In the Air) but haven't had a chance to play with any of it yet except You're a Star:

I set out to make a card with this stamp thinking it'd be good for my son on a particularly great day in Kindergarten. But as I perused my patterned paper collection, it occurred to me that my daughter is also (finally) starting her school career this coming week, too, so this card could be "girl-themed", too.

It's hard to see in the pic above but all the colored swirls in the mat paper and on the star stamp are glazed with Diamond Glaze. You can see that better in this shot, although the colors in this one are a bit off (hazard of taking pics at night under house lights). That's why you also get the "flat" picture with the flash above - the colors are truer to life.

Both the stamped image and the mat are zig-zag stitched.

Details: Paper - American Craft, The Paper Co.; Unity Stamp Co. stamp; VersaMark ink; Stampendous embossing powder; Marvy markers; Diamond Glaze; thread.

Don't forget to check out the AMAZING deals going on over on the Unity Stamp Co. site this weekend! (OMG - past KOTM 30% off!!!) And did you see the August KOTM??!!!!! I know I always gush about each upcoming KOTM but I have to say, in all honesty, this has to be the best one so far. The images are to die for! I can't wait for mine to arrive!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Of course, Mr. Quail just had to show up again! I LOVE this little guy!!

The design of the card was inspired by this week's Sketchy Thursday sketch over on Design by Diana:

Details: Unity Stamp Co. stamps (October & July KOTM); DCWV paper (Summer Stack); StazOn ink; Zig Millenium pen; Basic Grey trim.

Here's a sampling of other Unity goodness made this past week (click on the link for the original post):

Hip Hoppin' Ninja Style!!

Happy Hip Hop Friday!!

Today I have a layout for you, chock full of Unity goodness from the October KOTM!

And, if you know me, I love to combine challenges, so my Hip Hop Hangover is kickin' it The Pink Ninjas style to the Memories Always-Forever beat. (OK, yes, I'm old. I really can't pull of the teen speak anymore, huh? LOL.)

Prompt #7 on The Pink Ninjas this week is "Oh the Places You'll Go!". I decided to pair this with a scraplift challenge over on Memories Always-Forever of THIS gorgeous layout. In addition to lifting the style of the sketch, there needed to be a bit of red, a circle, and a flower on the layout.

~title detail pic~

Can I say first of all that I am loving this Colorbok paper??!! It came in a pack of 12 various patterns called "Lucky You". They're all doodle-y like this. So adorable!

My son is just starting to learn to read and he is DEVOURING The Magic Treehouse series. This makes me VERY HAPPY. I am an avid reader and I'm so excited for him to begin the lifelong journey into imagination. Oh, the places he'll go in books!

~books detail pic~

Can you see that the topmost flower "petal" is the definition of "read" and that I've highlighted various words?

~flower detail pic~

I also repeatedly stamped the word "read" on the "white" space in the upper right corner. Of course, I had to include one of my favorite little Unity stamps, too - Mr. Quail. He was the main reason I got the October KOTM. (Remember him from the highwire bicycle riding in THIS post?)

~quail detail pic~

Some other fun elements: Besides the flower, the apron hem border around the picture is cut out of a dictionary page. I covered a few stamped elements with sepia glass paper finish to tone down their color. And I stamped the alphabet on a bit of twill. I wish I knew where the 2 tags came from...they were part of my prize pack for winning Sketchy Thursday a few weeks back!

~flourish detail pic~
If you get a chance and want to have some fun, pop on over to both The Pink Ninjas and Memories Always-Forever to take part in each of these rockin' challenges!!

Details: Paper - Colorbok, The Paper Co.; Stamps - Unity Stamp Co., Technique Tuesday, Karen Foster Snap It Alphabet; Ink - StazOn, VersaMark; Making Memories letter stickers & mini safety pin; FolkArt Papier Glass Finish; Heidi Swapp tape; Stampin' Up! twill & linen thread; Fiskars border punch; vintage dictionary pages; highlighter; unknown tags.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Don't forget to check out the deals for the weekend over on the Unity Stamp Co. site.

Hip Hop Hangover Unity Style!!

Happy Hippity Hoppity Hangover!!

I can't wait to get my hands on that new July KOTM!! It's so adorable and the HH DT blog hop was awesome today. (Yes, I still need to dig out my thesaurus and replace my "awesome" addiction with something else.) Don't forget to check back in at Unity Stamp Co. for this weekend's specials. So good you just can't pass them up!

Well, let's get this party started!

I got a bit backed up today (with the new Memories Always-Forever design team thing and all...see the last post for the exciting news!!) so I tried to kill both Unity HH challenges with one stamp pad.

The challenges were to make a card with only a black & white background (there could be other elements on it in color) and to make something with NO squares.

I started with the Cricut Wildcard scalloped card base. The flowers from the May KOTM are stamped on a doily center (I cut it out of the doily I used on THIS LAYOUT a while back). It's stamped once in StazOn and then again a few times in Stampin' Up! grey for a shadowy look.

Then I stamped the top flower and the dragonfly on some DCWV spring stack paper (luh-uh-uhve those colors!), cut them out, and adhered them with foam squares. Both are then covered with Diamond Glaze. There are also some turquoise rhinestones on the dragonfly's antennae.

I intended the card to signify that the dragonfly lights up the flower's otherwise gray existence.

The card is finished with some black doodles and some b&w polka dot ribbon.

Details: Unity Stamp Co. May KOTM; Paper - DCWV, The Paper Co.; Ink - StazOn, Stampin' Up!; Cricut diecut; JudiKins Diamond Glaze; K & Co. adhesive rhinestones; Offray ribbon; Wilton doily; Zig Millenium pen.

Some other Unity goodness from this past week:

See THIS POST for more pics and info on this furry, flirty little wall hanging. My daughter's already got her "dibs" all over this one. LOL.

See THIS POST for more pics and info on this sweet layout.

Thanks for stopping by on your Hip Hop Hangover ride!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover!!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover Girlies!

Be sure to head on over to the Unity Blog for this weekend's specials. You won't want to miss them!
And, Happy 4th of July!! Anybody have fun plans this weekend? I would love to take the kids to see fireworks but it's been soooooo flippin' hot and humid here that I don't think I can stand it. They're still young enough that they won't realize they're missing anything. Is that bad?

This first card was made for the Sun is Shining on Unity challenge, to use yellow on your card:

The umbrella colors are also this week's SPCC color combo:

Weird how I swear I used my Stampin' Up! Gloriuos Green stamp pad but it looks more blue than green. The background is machine stitched to the card base and the "raindrops" (a retro g Studio stamp) are dotted with Diamond Glaze to simulate rain.

This next card was also made for the Sun is Shining on Unity challenge:

April 2011 issue

The ribbon slide is a "raw" metal one from Maya Road that I colored in with acrylic paint to go with the DCWV Green Stack paper and then covered with Diamond Glaze. The image block is also machine stitched. When you've already hauled out the sewing machine, might as well use it on everything!

This next card was made for a 6-y-o Star Wars fanatic's birthday party. For all the details and more shots, please see THIS POST (or scroll down a few days).

I have to say I'm pretty proud of that one. It's supposed to be Darth Vader and Obi Wan CONEobi fighting with their lightsabers.

Details (umbrellas): Stamps - Unity Stamp Co., g Studio; The Paper Co. paper; Stampin' Up! ink; Diamond Glaze; thread.

Details (flowers): Unity Stamp Co. stamp; Paper - DCWV Green Stack, The Paper Co.; SU! ink; Maya Road ribbon slide; Making Memories paint; Diamond Glaze; Adornaments fibers; thread.

Details (The Cone Wars): see THIS POST.

TFL!

Have a great time on the rest of the HOP!!!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover!!

Woot! Woot! Happy Hip Hop Hangover!!

I hope you are having a wonderful Friday.

I feel like I've been unbelievably busy this week and yet I only have two Unity cards to show you today. I sooooo wanted to participate in the pink & green challenge, too, but time just got away from me. I feel like I should apologize for my lack of content.

Anyhoo, here's my Holiday Unity challenge:

The gorgeous patterened paper and label is from my QVC Cosmo Cricket Christmas kit.

The tree is stamped on my faux handmade paper, Split Coast Stampers challenge TLC225. I had so much fun making this paper and made several other color combos, too. I encourage you to click on over to the site and read through the tutorial. It's super easy but comes out gorgeous! Who knew toilet paper could be so pretty.

The frame is a Cricut diecut embossed with Stampendous jeweled gold embossing powder. The partridge is also embossed with this gold.

This next card was made for the Paper Crafts Connection 2009 Gallery Idol birthday card challenge:

Please see this post (or scroll down a couple days) for all the details.

That's it for my Unity offerings. Hope you enjoyed them!

Details (partridge): Paper - Cosmo Cricket, Stampin' Up!, The Paper Co.; Unity Stamp Co. June KOTM stamps; Ink - StazOn, VersaMark; Cricket diecut; Stampendous embossing powder; SU! brads; Michaels ribbon; foam squares.

TFL!!

Hip Hop Hangover!!

Happy Hip Hop Hangover Friday!!

Here are my Unity offerings for the week:

First, I made this adorable wall hanging for a challenge over on Vintage Plum. It includes Shine On! and the June KOTM owl. For more details, please see the last post or go HERE.

This next little goodie was made for the Hip Hop "Unity Takes the Cake" challenge. There's so much "frosting" on this so beware of a sugar high. Loving the DCWV glittered paper, plus I hit the sooooo cute cherries from the June KOTM with a good dose of Stickles.

See that ruffled background paper? That's a cookie cup (you know - like a cupcake liner?).

This card also uses the color combo from SPCC's week #2 color challenge:

AND the sketch for this card is a Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge sketch #72:

Details: Paper - DCWV, SU!, The Paper Co.; Unity Stamp Co. stamps; SU! ink, blender pen, pink ruffled ribbon; Cricut cake die cut; Making Memories brads (I think); Stickles; misc. - ric rac, pearl string, pink & green trim.

This card was made for the Hip Hop "Bits & Pieces & Unity" challenge. The hearts are pieces left over after making the cake from the above card.

Details: Paper - DCWV, SU!, The Paper Co.; Ink - SU!; Cricut die cut; Stampendous sparkly embossing powder; Zig Millenium pen; unknow ribbon; makeup sponge; foam squares.

I made this card earlier in the week for Moxie Fab World's Value of Vintage challenge:

See this post for the details.

I am off for now. I've got a few more items up my sleeve that I want to make.

Thank you for stopping by!
