May the Sun Shine Warm Upon Your Face

** Update...this layout actually won the Scrap That Poetry challenge!!!  I'm so blown away!!  Woohoo!!!  And to put the cherry on top, I also get some super yummy goodies from Tessa's Precocious Paper etsy shop!!!!!  Thanks STP Girls!!**

Today I am sad...today's Design Dollies challenge is my last one as a member of their Design Team.  :o(  I have so enjoyed being a part of this wildly talented, fun, and very quirky group of girls and I'm going to miss chatting with them on a regular basis.

Today's element challenge is a recipe, to include:   1) a frame of sorts, 2) a stamped image, 3) the color brown; 4) 3 flowers (no more, no less) (anyone else hear Henry from Oswald here?), and 5) butterflies.

January 2011 issue

Isn't morning sunlight AWESOME for pictures??!!  I'm definitely going to have to enlarge this one and put it on the wall.

I also played along with Scrap That Poetry's Challenge #12 which is an Irish Blessing.  I excerpted the line, "May the Sun Shine Warm Upon Your Face" to complement my picture.  To see the entire Irish Blessing click HERE.

My stamped image for the Dollies challenge is the butterfly just above the word "shine".  All the other butterflies are cut out of paper from the DCWV Mariposa stack.  They're so rich in detail and colorful and/or sparkly!

Hop on over to the Design Dollies site to see what the rest of the DT made for your inspiration.  Be sure to leave some love for my fellow exiting DT members Nicole and Ellen.

And I just want to send a huge shout out and THANK YOU to the three Design Dollies themselves - Adina, Kristy, and Leah!  They are the greatest group of chickies!  So much fun!!!  They always made me feel welcome and they're really good ego-boosters.  LOL!  The incoming Design Team is going to love working with them.

Today is the first day back to school for my son from a 2 week, 1 day spring break.  (Yeah, not sure why they had today off, too.  And then they have this coming Friday off, too!  Sheesh!)  I'm so ready for MY break from the day-long mess-, whine-, scream-fests overrun with neighborhood children raiding my refrigerator and messing up my front yard.  The kids were determined to end spring break with a bang, too.  Yesterday the boy had a grand collision on a bike with another bike and GASHed his nose up really well.  Quite a bloody mess.  It was touch and go there for about an hour - I wasn't sure if we should have taken him in for stitches.  In the end we decided not to.  Hopefully it won't scar.  Anybody have an opinion on that Mederma stuff???  Should I get some?  And then, just a hour later the girl cut her toe while outside and the boy came screaming into the house that she was SQUIRTING BLOOD EVERYWHERE.  Seriously, just about had a heart attack.  Luckily she was merely minorly bleeding but I think they were both so wound up from the first accident that they overreacted.  So, needless to say, I'm looking forward to my couple hours of solitude and silence tomorrow morning while they're both at school.

I think I'll just sit.

Stare off into space.

We'll see.

Risk

Yea!  I finally got to play along with Who's That Girl!  I've been wanting to for so long.  The current challenge, #5, is Risky Business, to document a potentially risky or dangerous thing you've done in your life.

I was an only child so the prospect of adding a second child to our family was a very risky venture for me emotionally.  But, as you can see by my title, I've never regretted the decision to proceed.

On the right side of the picture is the pull for a hidden journaling card which describes why I felt like having a second child was a risk for me emotionally.  But, as you can see, it's hidden journaling so I'm going to keep the exact details to myself.  ;oD  This layout is definitely going into MY album, not my daughter's, because even though on the surface it's about her, it's really about me and my feelings.

Of course, couldn't let a layout go by without some fun stitching.

I got the idea for the flower border from a similar embellie by Prima sold at Michaels.

Sooooo loving all the little extra fun stuff in the Ninja Addicts' "Don't Get It Twisted" kit.  Of all the kits they've released so far, this is the only one I waffled on buying...and the one I've used the most of, to date.  The colors just suit me!

Topped it all of with a cute little bow!

I had a great time playing along with this one.  All the prompts I've seen so far for Who's That Girl are "thinkers" and I like that.  I'm sure I'll play along again more often!

Just got back from seeing "How To Train Your Dragon".  We saw the 2D version because the little girl above isn't a fan of the clunky 3D glasses.  No matter - it was one of the most awesome children's movies I've seen in a loooong time.  Definitely a must see.  And there were places where I could see how 3D would've been just that much more amazing.  I wouldn't say no to seeing it again but in 3D.

Hope your weekend outlook is bright!

Heidi

Details - Everything on the layout is from the Ninja Addicts' "Don't Get It Twisted" kit except:  My Little Shoebox mini alpha stickers, DMC yellow floss, Barbie playing card, thread, masking tape & Zig Millennium pen used on flipside of card for the journaling.

P.S.  Be sure to check out the Torendi blog today!!!!  It's the last day for the Torendi / Mod Podge giveaway.  Just leave a comment for your chance to win a Mod Podge sample pack from Mod Podge Rocks! AND some Hurly Burly fabric from Torendi.  How cute is this??

BAM!

OK, seriously, aren't there supposed to be SEVEN days in a week??!!  Didn't I JUST do a Sketchy Thursdays post??  Someone's messing with my weeks, here!  Who do I complain to??

Today's sketch is bittersweet...it's the last sketch for our inaugural Design Team of Tessa, Jennifer, and Amanda.  They have done a phenomenal job and have been the best DT we could've wished for.  Be sure to check out each of their blogs and leave them some Sketchy love.

I can't believe it's been a little over 6 months since we started the Sketchy Thursdays blog!  We've posted (I think) 41 sketch challenges (including GDT and SCCs) and have given away MANY more prizes than that by some of the most awesome sponsors!  There have been over 70K hits to the blog and we're being stalked followed by 620+ followers (lol!).  Sketchy Thursdays even jumped aboard the Facebook train a little over a month ago and we already have over 570 FB Fans so far!!!  Next week we're expanding our Design Team - even branching out to include a resident digi designer!  And Diana and I have so many more thoughts and ideas swirling in our crazy little heads on how to make Sketchy Thursdays just that much more fun!!!  Stay tuned!!

OK, enough talk.  Let's get down to some sketchy action!

If you follow me, you have probably noticed I primarily scrap single pic pages.  So I love it when Diana pushes me to include a few more.  (Although I admit sometimes even then I end up swapping out patterened papers, embellies, or ephemera for the "superfluous" pictures, lol!)

I really love the way this came out!  I don't know how I've never seen the Cosmo Cricket Get Happy line.  It's so my style!!  Gonna have to look into getting more of this.

~title detail pic~

The journaling says, "Who learned 2 tie his shoe on the 1st try?  This dude!"  And he DID!  No joke!  And now he's one of the official shoe-tiers in his class.  (Isn't that adorable?!)

~stitching detail pic~

Had a bit of fun with my sewing machine again, too. It's getting so a layout doesn't feel finished without a bit of stitching.

~question mark detail pic~

For some reason, my Dymo (don't know about yours) doesn't have a question mark.  So I fashioned myself one out of a "2" and a ".", and I think it looks pretty awesome if I may say so myself.  BTW, the Dymo tape IRL is dark green...I can't seem to get it to look anything other than black in the pictures.  Oh, well.

~shoelace detail pic~

So, I'm not entirely sure why I've followed up the shoe-tying declaration with BAM! but it just seemed to fit somehow.  It's like a throwdown.  "BAM!  My kid's a genius!"  LOL!!!

See my eyelets there??  I'm always so proud when I actually use up some my GInormous stash of eyelets that have been lurking around for YEARS, especially when I can tie them in creatively.  Ooh!  Get it??!!  TIE them in.  I crack myself up.  Like my ribbon shoelaces?  Just wrapped tape around the ends.  Ain't nuthin' but a thang, baby!  (OK, seriously.  WHAT is up with me today??  I fancy myself a co-me-di-an.)

Be sure to pop on over to the Sketchy Thursdays blog to check out what our wonderful inaugural DT made for your inspiration.  And play along with us!  This week's winner will get THREE awesome paper collections from Scribble Scrabble:

Aren't those YUMMY??!!!

Oh, and don't forget we're having a run-off for the April Guest Design Team Member.  You can still vote for your fave through 11:59pm EST Friday night!  Such excitement!

Thanks  for stopping by today!

Today's Pink Ninjas challenge is brought to you by the fabulous Miss Em!  Be sure to check out her Ninja Star interview!!  She's so much fun!!

Prompt:  Labels
Technique:  Recycle some packaging
Pink Twist: Ribbon

Prompt: Labels...check!  Broke out the Dymo labeler (on the cassette) and my title itself.

~title detail~
Technique:  Recycle some packaging...check!  The whole project is made upon the sturdy cardboard sheet included with every Ninja Addicts' kit.  And that adorable dress form is cut out from some Barbie doll packaging.  Not sure if you'd consider the cassette tape recycled "packaging"...

Twist: ribbon...check!

~collage detail~
The background paper and the adorable little Kawaii cassette tape stamp are from this month's Torendi kit "Framed Cuteness".

The paper is Mod Podged to the background.  I also used Mod Podge to shape and attach the tape from the cassette.  Make sure you check out the Torendi blog this Friday for your chance to win a cool Mod Podge sample pack from Mod Podge Rocks!  (And check out Mod Podge Rocks daily for super cool inspiration.)

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Ninjas made for your inspiration.  I swear every challenge I am blown away by the raw talent on this DT.  I am so honored to be included among this group.  In the immortal words of Wayne & Garth, "(I am) not worthy!"

If I Could Bottle This I Would

Today we have a very happy, cheery color combo over on the Design Dollies to perk up your Monday:  black, white, and yellow.  Be sure to check out what the Design Team made for your inspiration.

The flowers are fingerpainted and then stitched.  I love this self-portrait, the camera held at arm's length.  So funny!

~closeup detail~

I used my Sketchy Thursdays April Guest Design Team sketch and even the prompt.  I did mist and paint, athough not pink as directed.

The April GDT Challenge is closed but you can still hop on over to cast your vote for your favorite.

Have a great Monday!

Happy Saturday

Made a few cards recently.  A few with the new Lawn Fawn Stamps.  OMG.  These stamps are fabulous.  They stamp so crisp!!!!  I'll share these cards over the next few days or so.

Oct/Nov 2010 issue - Lawn Fawn stamps review

The dictionary page and fairy card are from the lovely Diana's etsy shop Design By Diana.

I misted the dress form stamp with both a green and a pink.  I love how it came out.  The image is stamped on a file folder so it accepted the mist well without warping.  I just discovered the Autumn Leaves Stampology ink made for clear stamps and I have to say it works very nicely.  I'd been having problems with inconsistent saturation of color when using both StazOn and Stampin' Up! ink on clear stamps.

Details:  Sew Lovely stamp by Lawn Fawn Stamps, Autumn Leaves Stampology ink, ephemera from Design By Diana etsy shop, Cosmo Cricket tiny alpha, Prima pearl, Maya & Glimmer Mists, Stampin' Up! cardstock, file folder, thread, unknown velvet ribbon.

And since it's Saturday and Saturdays are for most people happy, feel-good days, I'm going to acknowledge two blog awards I received just recently.  Amazingly they both came in on the same day!  Talk about a feel-good day!  I'm so honored to have touched and been touched by these two amazing women:

Kandi from Krafty Kandi Krafts gave me the Beautiful Blogger Award.

And can you believe, THIS is what she said:  "...I have scrappers envy when it comes to Heidi's awesome scrapbook pages. She does things I'd never dare to do, let alone even think of! She is sassy and spunky and it totally shows on her pages. If I could aspire to be a better scrapbooker I would start with trying to scraplift some of her totally rad pages."

I am BLOWN AWAY by this.  Humbled.  WOW.  Kandi just validated every creative thing I've ever dared to share.  Thank you SO MUCH Kandi.

OK, for this award, I'm supposed to share 10 things you may not know about me and then pass this along to 10 bloggers who have inspired me.  Well, I've got a room full of cleaning and organizing to get to today so I'm going to leave this little bit until later, maybe tomorrow.  ;oD

As mentioned, on the SAME day (wow!), the beautiful Miss Ally left me the Sunshine Award.  Poor Miss Ally.  I stalk her.  She has just the sweetest spirit, makes the most rad stuff, and has the most beautiful (and photogenic) family, including their newest addition the Hankster, who is just so sweet you want to eat him up!   Again, I'll pass along the award later when I'm more organized.  (OK, I'll do it later...You know it.  I know it.  I'm never going to be more organized!)

Moving right along...a little more business to attend to.

Today is the last day to submit an entry for the Sketchy Thursdays April Guest Design Team Member!  And wouldn't you know it, the winner will get the  Ninja Addicts' Three Little Birds kit designed by both the beautiful Miss Ally and one of Sketchy's newest Design Team Members the amazing Miss Nely!!!!!

Also, today is Jenn's birthday so she's offering a 30% discount on all order at the Torendi shop over $30 for her big 3-oh!  Hop on over and check it out.   (And don't forget to leave her some birthday love!)

Oh, I'm soooo using this image for my bday in a couple weeks, LOL!

OK, I think that's it for today.  Whew!

Hope your Saturday is shaping up as lovely as mine.

So Pretty

It's Sketchy Thursday!!!

As you can see, I took a bit of creative license with this week's sketch again:

But that's OK!  Our sketches are for your inspiration...the catalyst for your creativity.  Where you take it is up to you!!!!  (As long as it's somewhat recognizable as inspired by the original sketch!  LOL.)

Everything (except for the mist, paint, floss, and thread) is from the GORGEOUS Ninja Addicts' Caroussel kit.

OMG.  When I laid out everything that came with this kit I was in heaven!  By far the Ninja's most wonderful kit yet. (And you know how much I ~heart~ all their other kits, too!)  I'm telling you now...go grab one while you can!!!

I love the way this pic of my little ballerina came out...she was moving so it's slightly blurred which gives it such a soft look.  Before I misted the page I set down the acrylic wings as a mask.  I then blotted the beaded up mist from the wings onto the paper above, around which I stitched another set of wings.  So cute!!!  (The edges of the acrylic wings were also fingerpainted.)

We would love for you to drop by Sketchy Thursdays and play along with us.  Check out what our amazing, talented Design Team made for your inspiration.  LUV Tessa's colors & misting!  Jennifer's pictures are stunning as usual - I gotta get into one of her photography classes!  Amanda should be thankful there's an ocean separating us because otherwise I'd be trying to find a way to get that adorable little kitty all to myself.  OMG what a cutie patootie!   Our GDT Melissa just does not disappoint!  Beautiful layout!!  Oh, and of course, can't forget Diana.  Wow.  She blows me away each and every week.   I love these girls!!!   I am going to be so sad to see them go at the end of the month.  (OK, well, not Diana.  Can't get rid of her!  She's sort of the brains behind the whole thing, LOL.  :oD )  But lucky them - they can now play for all the amazing prizes we all salivate over every week.

And speaking of prizes, this week's sketch is being sponsored by Tracy Ann Digital Art.  One lucky winner will get a $15 credit in the TADA store!  Check out what they have...it's gorgeous!!  Do a little pre-shopping for when you win, right?

Thanks for stopping by today!

- Heidi

P.S.  Also, while you're over on Sketchy Thursdays, take a look at our new Design Team announcement and leave a shout out for our wonderful incoming team.

Details:  All elements from the Ninja Addicts' Caroussel kit unless noted:  Making Memories paint, Glimmer Mist, DMC floss, thread.

Sometimes They Actually Like Each Other

This week's Design Dollie's elements challenge, brought to you by the birthday girl Adina, is to lift something of Adina's!!  Hop on over to her blog to check out her cool creations and wish her a happy bday while you're there!  (AND she's giving out birthday candy!!!)

HERE is the gorgeous layout that I chose to lift of Adina's.  And here's where I went with it...

Oct/Nov 2010 issue - Sibling Love

Everything but the letter stickers are from the Torendi store.  The paper (which includes the scalloped smiley face border), the frame, and the ribbon are from this month's Torendi kit "Framed Cuteness":

The bot and the thought cloud are from Bam Pop!'s Vol. 2 Collection (as well as the blue paper I made the hearts from and the scissors image...they were the leftovers from the same page).  The pennant is new Sassafras Lass Nerdy Bird

This is one of the 2-1/2 layouts I made at the crop with Julie this past weekend!  I had so much fun that night!  And 2-1/2 layouts in one night is good for me.  I'm definitely going to have to subject those poor girls to ME again soon!  LOL.

We'd love for you to come play along with us on Design Dollies!!!!  If you've never checked it out, they have some of the best prizes!!!!  Check it out!

Thanks for stopping by today.

Heidi

Don't Hate Me Diana!!!!!!!!!

Went to a crop tonight - first one I've been to in years.  I'd forgotten how much fun they are.  I'll post the stuff I got done (ok, yes, I only got 2 1/2 layouts done but that's good for a night for me!) over the next week.

But the best part of the crop was that I finally got to play along in person with other scrappy people like me!  I swear I was convinced they didn't exist in my area.  (Albeit, these people weren't exactly in my area, either.  1 hour away, but that's ok.)  Here's the part where Diana kills me...

Yup!  That's Julie as in :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) Julie!!!  And yes, she's as much fun as her blogging/commenting style!

Diana, don't disown me.  We wish you could've been there.  Someday girl we are going to meet face to face!

Hope everyone has a great Sunday...Did you remember to set your clocks forward???

~heart~ u, then & now

It's Thursday and you know what that means!!!!  SKETCHES!!!!!  Today not only do I have a Sketchy Thursdays sketch, but also a Design Dollies one.

This week's Sketchy Thursday sketch:

The layout:

January 2011 issue

Every single thing on this layout (except the thread) is from the Ninja Addicts "Three Little Birds" kit, which is incidentally the prize on this month's Sketchy Thursdays Guest Design Team ChallengeYou have until next Saturday 3/20 to play along!!

I just love all the touchable elements.  That giant fabric & tulle flower is awesome!!!!

Lacey, sparkley, shiney.  Yum!  That blue sparkley paper by American Crafts is amazing.  It's the thickest cardstock I've ever encountered.  It was even a bit hard to cut out the "u" and it's not even that small.

How cute is this felt & fabric birdie.  Toooooo cute!!!  Ally & Nely did such an awesome job with their debut kit!!

Incidentally, this has always been one of my favorite pictures.  I turned my bedroom into a little photo shoot one morning when they were so much smaller and clicked away.  I don't know why this particular pic stands out to me.  I've never been able to put my finger on it.  It just does.

Be sure to hop on over to the Sketchy Thursdays blog to see what our amazingly talented Design Team made for your inspiration.  And up for grabs this week...some yumminess from Sweet Twee Lab.  Be sure to check out their etsy shop.  Lots of lip-smackin goodness there!

This week Design Dollie Kristy outdid herself with the sketch:

It was a Ninja Addicts sort of crafty evening:

January 2011 issue

This one is almost entirely made from the Addicts' "Don't Get It Twisted" kit.  Only the base paper (My Mind's Eye) and alpha stickers (My Little Shoebox) aren't from the kit.

Again, had lots of fun with texture.  Cloth, tulle, stitching, glitter.  Yummy!!!  I know it's hard to see but the two pics are our first posed family pic in 2006 and a posed family pic in 2009.  (Yes, I just noticed I wrote 2004 on the layout...gonna have to correct that.  Little girl didn't even come along until the end of 2005!)

I love how this whole kit is so bright and whimsical.

And who wouldn't love this adorable Fimo cloud friend?  Smile!!!

Be sure to check out what the rest of the DT made over on the Dollies site for your inspiration.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sleeping In the Dog's Butt...Priceless!

Yeah, you heard me.  When you see the pic, you'll understand.

I have been waiting for ages for the perfect inspiration to scrap this priceless moment!  Is it bad that I find this so hilarious?  You see, our dog has gotten very crotchety (is that a word?) in her advanced years and she will plop down wherever the hell she damn well wants to with blatant disregard for anyone else occupying said space.  My son's such a deep sleeper, he didn't even notice that the dog was practically sitting on his face while he was napping.  So, do you think I should've removed the dog from the situation like a good mommy or do you feel me that I ran for the camera instead??!!!

Enter today's Pink Ninjas challenge:

Prompt - Priceless
Technique - Distress it!
Pink Twist - Paint

Oooooooh....this one's right up my alley!!

As seen in the August 2010 issue of Scrapbook News and Review magazine.

Gotta say, I'm likin this one very much if I may say so myself!

1 impromptu nap on the couch by a heavy sleeping boy...

(Yum!  Loving those Prima flower centers!)

Plus, 1 stubborn dog with a favorite spot on said couch...

(Aren't those Basic Grey doggies just stinkin adorable??!!  And have you noticed my yellow paint's been getting a workout lately.  Not generally a yellow person except when it comes to the paint.  Hmmmm.  Notice I've swished in just enough pink paint to satisfy the challenge?  LOL.)

Plus, 1 mom with a twisted sense of humor and a camera...

Priceless.  (Spelled out next to the cameras...I know it's hard to see in this tiny picture.)

Cuttlebugged the pic and then distressed it as directed.

Been lovin all the ruler action Diana's been rockin lately so snuck in a ruler transparancy for good measure.  (Oh, REALLY!!  Seriously, I did not "pun" on purpose!  It just came out.  But I'm leaving it because it works.  And it's funny.  I crack myself up.)

Jump on over to the Pink Ninjas blog to see what the amazing Design Team made for your inspiration.  Awesome stuff!!!  You're going to love it!

Please, please, pretty please come play along with us!  One lucky player will win something uber cool from Jennifer Priest of Hydrangea Hippo!!!

/>

Check out her blog and etsy store!!!  And, Jennifer's just THAT cool that she's also offering all Ninja players free shipping for this entire month!!!!!  Check out THIS POST for details and your coupon code.

Hope you have a cool day!

p.p.p.p.s   (OK, yes, I'm quitting after this one!)  Check out this month's guest artist on the Pink Ninja Addicts, Kara Haupt.  This chick is wicked talented AND A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT!  She is going to be one artistic force to be reckoned with, this one!

Nerdy Birthday

I am so loving my Sassafras Lass Nerdy Bird Wee Bundle I got from the Torendi store!!!!  It's so versatile.  It's got the right blend of cute, funky, and pretty.  You may remember the cute card I made a couple days ago.  Here's a pretty one:

This card was inspired by one made by Kim Hughes in the March/April 2010 Papercrafts magazine.

I made this for a very sweet friend's birthday.  Happy Birthday again, Davina, if you are reading this!!

Check out the Torendi store for all the new products including Sassafras Lass, Cosmo Cricket, and BamPop!  And be sure to stop by the Torendi blog...there's an ongoing giveaway worth checking out.

We're having some weird weather here today, which is fun considering we usually have sun, heat, and more sun.  One minute it's sunny, the next minute low, dark, whispy clouds are rolling in with great gusts of wind, torrential rain, and hail!!!  And then, poof!  It's sunny again.  Weird.

Hope you're having a good day!
